Frequently Asked Questions
How is length measured?
We measure length from the back of each connector.
Why don't you use Lemo® connectors?
We do offer Lemo® connectors just send us an email! Lemo® is not a type of connector but a name brand of circular push-pull connectors. To keep our cables affordable for owner-ops, we stock and use another brand of circular push-pull connectors that are fully compatible with Lemo® for our cables. We are happy to make your cables using genuine Lemo® brand connectors.
What is sleeving?
We offer an option to cover your cable with PET sleeving. PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The material has a wide operating temperature range and is resistant to chemical degradation, UV radiation, and abrasion. In addition to protecting your cable, PET sleeving lets you customize the color of your cable.
What polarity do I need?
Manufacturers often include polarity and pin-out diagrams in the owner's manual. We strongly recommend you check your manual before ordering a cable.
We have a small library of camera manuals available here.
What is a boot?
A boot is a flexible piece of rubber that stops cables from being bent too far and thus being damaged. It helps prolong the cable's life and can also be used to color-code cables. We make most of our SDI/BNC cables with genuine 75Ω rated Neutrik® Reartwist connectors that allow for easy removal in tight spaces.
What polarity are you Lemo® or push-pull connectors?
Our cables come wired with Arri standard ( Pin 1 = ground , Pin 2 = 12/24v). We can make cables in any polarity configuration just send us an email!
Do you offer repairs?
We do not repair BNC/SDI cables. Instead, we recommend replacing them. However, we do repair power and FIZ cables on a case-by-case basis.
I want a cable but I can’t find it on your website. Can you help?
Yes! Clients commonly contact us needing a specific cable that isn't on the market or our website. Send us an email at info@customcameracables.com
Do your cables protect against shorting out my BNC ports?
The "short" answer is no. The best way to avoid shorting your BNC port is to follow the guideline outlined here by Arri. Our cables are shielded, except for D-Tap/P-Tap, which reduces the likelihood of a fried BNC port. Isolators can help but have a negative impact on signals.
We recommend applying these stickers on 12G devices.
Why are the my cables in random bags that same used?
In an effort to reduce our use of plastic, we often pack our cables in the small plastic bags that we receive parts in.
How Do I Adjust My Adjustable Right Angle Connector?
We include a small wrench with our adjustable connectors. Use this wrench to loosen the nut on the tip just enough to rotate the connector to the correct angle before retightening.
