75 ohm vs 50 ohm BNC

Ever needed a coax/BNC adapter and been tempted to pick one up from the hardware store down the street? Don’t do it! There’s a 90% chance that those connectors are 50 ohm when you really need 75 ohm for video production applications. While they look very similar 50 ohm connectors have slightly larger pins that will splay the 75ohm connectors over time increasing the likelihood of an open circuit (AKA you wont get a signal).

Identifying 75 ohm vs. 50 ohm

You can identify a 50 vs 75 ohm by looking at the connectors dialectic or insulator which is the white plastic portion in the middle. On 50 ohm BNC the pin will be surrounded by the plastic dialectic while a 75 ohm will be missing this piece.

We stock 75 ohm adapters which are available in 6G and 12G rating.
